Challenges:

The largest healthcare provider in New Brunswick uses a variety of information systems to provide services to medical staff.

Each of these systems was isolated and in many instances, not available beyond the hospital’s firewall. The challenge was to provide secure remote access to information systems through a simple, easy to use interface.

Solution:

Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation (AHSC) provides a variety of services through a number of information systems, delivered to a large user community. Users range from physicians and clinical staff, to pharmaceutical, radiology, administration and IT support.

Since AHSC has deployed AnyWare Group’s fully managed Role Oriented Access Management System (ROAM), medical teams have more time for patient care.

The ROAM solution is “touchless” or clientless, and does not require the installation of client software on the user’s workstation, like traditional VPN solutions.

AHSC users log on to ROAM via the Internet using a standard web browser. After authentication, users gains access to the ROAM desktop for an easy way to access information systems.

“The deployment of ROAM has helped us realize our vision of an integrated health community. Using ROAM, we can provide secure remote access to healthcare workers, administrators and physicians based on their personal identity and their role in the organization. Users see only the applications they need or are authorized to use.” said Derrick Jardine, CIO Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation (AHSC).“ROAM has greatly reduced our deployment cost over traditional VPN solutions, allowing us to focus on Healthcare, not technology. We manage our patients, while AnyWare Group manages the ROAM service.”

"With ROAM, our medical staff now has all the information they require, at their fingertips.  This has improved the quality of their working environment, saved them time, and decreased our cost of providing that information." said Dr. James O'Brien, Chief Medical Officer with AHSC.
